Stage 1

About 5.5 hours from Kranjska Gora to Mojstrana through alpine valleys at the foot of the Julian Alps. You start on relatively gentle forest paths with the high peaks never far from view - a manageable opener for the Juliana loop.

Mojstrana is a classic mountaineering village with restaurants and guesthouses. Book ahead in summer; it's a hub for Triglav country even when you're circling rather than summiting.
